Polish Us Pink: Manglaze Lesbihonest

Well it’s a Monday in October and that means its time to wear and post pink in another Polish Us Pink day:) Today I’ve got a polish that is pink of steroids. Meet Manglaze Lesbihonest:)

Manglaze Lesbihonest

Now because I thought I’d better mix it up a wee bit I dotted up my ring finger on my right hand with China Glaze White on White. Originally I had planned to paint my ring finger with Manglaze Mayo which is an amazing white matte polish and do pink dots. But unfortunately I have the concentration of a squirrel because I was halfway through painting my ring finger with Lesbihonest when I remembered. Oh we’ll, another time. The dotting was actually easier than I expected but I’ve still got a lot to learn though because I poured out a heap more White on White onto the baking paper than I actually needed. Still, it’s a starting point.

So what do you think of Manglaze polishes? I have to admit to having quite a few of them now and I adore them. They’ve become my go to polish when I’m short of time. They’re so easy to apply and take so little time to dry. More importantly they just look fantastic. I’ve not worn one yet that I’ve been disappointed with. I’ve got some swatch photos of other Manglaze polishes that I wore ages ago when I first got a couple but haven’t got around to posting them. I will try and swatch the rest of them and do a Manglaze post because these are beautiful polishes. Now when I first read about Manglaze polishes there was no where selling them that did international shipping so I reluctantly put them out of my mind. But a couple of months later I heard via Twitter that Susan at http://www.startrinkets.com/en/ and Annette at http://www.shoppe-eclectic.co/ had started stocking Manglaze. Susan doesn’t seem to be stocking them now but Annette’s certainly still is. So if you’ve not been able to get your mitts on these amazing funky polishes before now, grab the chance whilst its there. You won’t regret it:)

Polish Us Pink! An Untamed Carrie

It’s another Monday in October and that means a post featuring pink polish as part of Polish Us Pink, an initiative directed at Breast Cancer Awareness devised by Susan at The Subtle Shimmer and a few other nail bloggers.

Today I’m wearing pink in the true Barbie Doll sense. I give you Cult Nails Untamed under Darling Diva Polish’s Carrie.

I’ve got to say that this isn’t my usual polish choice. I think I’ve said before I’m not a huge one for pink polish. And yet despite that I own both of these babies:)

Cult Nails Untamed & Darling Diva Polish Carrie

Untamed is a lovely mid pink jelly polish which could probably be great for jelly sandwiches – a feat that is still beyond me. It has a very ver subtle (if that’s a word that can be used in conjunction with a pink like this!) shimmer thanks to a sparse smattering of very very fine micro glitter.

Darling Diva Polish’s Carrie is an fine an slightly larger iridescent glitters in a very lightly tinted mid pink suspension base. The base is slightly thick but not so as to be difficult to apply and suspends the glitter beautifully. I’ve really very impressed with the DDP polishes I’ve worn so far and I’m quite surprised that this brand hasn’t been picked up by the likes of Llarowe or some of the other online stores that stock indies yet. Darling Diva Polish is available from their Etsy store. They ship internationally for a really quite reasonable price.

Untamed was part of the recent Cult Nails collection designed by Maria’s daughter Coco. I bought the set of five polishes as part of the pre sale pricing arrangement that Cult Nails tends to do when they release a new collection, which is why Untamed made it’s way to the LCF stash. It probably would have otherwise. But it’s a fun polish to have and I’m sure as my competence confidence with all things nail artsy grows I’ll be pulling it out again. I own quite a few Cult Nails polishes because the formulas are generally great and they strike me as great value.

Do you have any polishes by these brands? Have you ventured on to Etsy in search of some good indie lacquers yet? Be warned – it will be the ruin of your wallet:)

Polish Us Pink: China Glaze Under the Boardwalk and Illamasqua Stance

Hullo there. Oopsie daisies, didn’t mean to not post in quite so long. But I’ve discovered the world of Instagram!!! I’m @lacquercarefactor if you happen to be on there:)

The other night on Twitter I happened across a convo as you do and butted on in (again, as you do:)). It was a few of the polish bloggers I follow cooking up the idea of an PinkPolish challenge for October in recognition of Breast Cancer Awareness.

Susan’s post on her blog The Subtle Shimmer explains it best. But basically this challenge will involve posting pink polish of some or other variety, be it plain or arty, every Monday in October in promotion of Breast Cancer Awareness and in recognition of those in our lives who have been affected by, or who struggle with, breast cancer or in deed any type of cancer.

Not to take away from the seriousness of the endeavour, but a once a week challenge is my kind of challenge. Pink polish isn’t really my kind of polish but of course, being a collector of sorts, I own a fair few pinks of one description or another, many of them untried. So this challenge gives me a chance to crack them open.

So the first polish I’m posting today is actually one I wore back in May when I first bought it but in my slight (relatively) hiatus from blogging I didn’t get around to posting the pics. Some may say that this polish leans more towards the purple range of the colour spectrum but to my mind it’s very much in the pink camp: China Glaze’s Under the Boardwalk from their Summer 2012 collection.

China Glaze Under the Boardwalk

Like I said I’m not really a pink polish sort but when I started to see the swatches of this polish coming up on blogs, I was more and more drawn to something so bright and glossy looking. And remember, I’m in the Southern Hemisphere so I was hankering this in winter. This was two coats over base coat and topped with Seche Vite. I recall the formula being a little thick but very pigmented. I’d probably thin it down a little before I wear it next but despite the thickness of the formula it dried beautifully and I wore it for several days. It was a lovely antidote to the early days of winter. I also wore it on my toes for quite a long time too. The only other polish I bought from this collection was Ride the Waves which I’m yet to wear but I anticipate that I will enjoy that one just as much.

As you can see I was rocking the nubs back then, as I have been on and off throughout much of winter. But to my mind such bright polish actually really compliments short nails.

Next up I have a manicure I wore a couple of weeks ago whilst on a mini break up in the Hunter Valley of New South Wales. This is Illamasqua Stance.

Illamasqua Stance

This is just such a gorgeous polish and was one of the two polishes in Illamasqua’s Human Fundamentalism collection. This is two coats over my standard OPI Matte Envy base coat and topped with Seche Vite. The formula is wonderful and applies really easily.

Illamasqua Stance

And again, whilst I’m not much of a pink polish chick, there is something about strong, vibrant magenta toned pinks that I’m drawn to.

I purchased the China Glaze polish from a seller on eBay because China Glaze isn’t a brand that is stocked in stores here. I bought Stance from Illamasqua’s online store. A girlfriend and I tend to do mini-group buys when Illamasqua have sales or reduce their free shipping limit etc. Once you’ve made three (?) online purchases you qualify for a 10% loyalty bonus each time thereafter, plus they tend to send out cards with your order offering a further 15% off your next purchase so all in all, if you buy at the right time, you can make quite a saving.
