Holothon: Picture Polish Monroe v2

Hullo again. It’s still Holothon so I wanted to take advantage of that and wear another of the wonderful holo glitters by Picture Polish.

Picture Polish originally released Monroe v1 sometime ago as part of its Opulence range. Now I must admit I own Monroe v1 but like the naughty, indulgent lacquerhead that I am, I’m yet to wear it. In between times, however, Picture Polish came out with their new colours, including their collaboration range which contained several lovely holo glitter polishes. I bleated about Kryptonite in a previous Holothon post here.

Now since I’d worn and loved both Kryptonite and Attitude, when I read Cathy at More Nail Polish’s review of Monroe v2 I knew I just had to have it. Cathy’s review included a comparison of v1 and v2. But the clincher for me was that v2, unlike v1, was made with holo glitter rather than bog standard micro glitter (forgive me, am paraphrasing here:)).

Now if you can make out some scratches in the photos it’s because I’d been wearing this for three days before I got around to photographing it. I didn’t even bother reapplying a top coat (lazy see:)). What do you think about that? Pretty amazing huh?

Have you tried many of the recent releases by Picture Polish? What do you think of them?

Holothon: Cirque Fascination Street

I really do have more holographic polishes that I initially thought. And of course a fair few of them are untried. So this challenge, which is so relaxed that it doesn’t feel like a challenge at all, has spurred me  on to to trying some beauties that I’ve neglected thus far.

Fascination Street is one of four polishes I bought a while back from Cirque. From memory the Cirque collection contained two holographic polishes (I bought both), a couple of duochromes and some glitters. Something for everyone:) Fascination is a lovely mid purple polish and has quite a strong holo effect despite that it applies much like a creme than a pure linea holo.

Cirque Fascination Street

I applied Fascination Street over Nfu Oh Aqua Base because I wanted to try out the base coat. But judging by the texture of the Fascination Street’s formula it doesn’t need an aqua base.

The colour in these pics is spot on which surprised me since I usually have difficulty getting our camera to play nicely with purples. Here’s another pic trying to show the holo-goodness of this baby.

I bought this polish direct from Cirque’s online store here, however, I know that Mei Mei’s Signature’s is a stockist too. Both sites ship internationally.

I recently re-organised my stash in the Ikea Alex drawers that I use because I hadn’t allowed enough room for growth in various brands, nor for the acquisition of previously unknown-to-me indies. Rest assured there is space now for more Cirque polishes as I’ll be very interested to see what further beauties come out from this brand.

Have you tried any Cirque polishes yet?

Holothon: Ah holo glitter polish, thy name is Love

Hullo again.

Am pretty sure holo glitter counted in terms of polishes that qualify for Holothon. Which is lucky really since I absolutely adore the holo glitter polishes that Picture Polish has come out with recently. I admit to buying a couple of them. And I was also fortunate enough to receive a bottle of Kryptonite from the lovely Cathy of More Nail Polish who, as you’d know, was the collaborator on Kryptonite together with Picture Polish.

So far I’ve worn Attitude and Kryptonite, and have Demeter as well as newly formulated Monroe to try. I was too unorganised to photograph Attitude whilst I was wearing it but I did remember to take pics of Kryptonite.

Picture Polish Kryptonite

Kryptonite and Attitude are really are distracting polishes to wear because you will honestly want to spend significant periods of time staring at you nails whilst you have these on.

Picture Polish Kryptonite

The formula on both Kryptonite and Attitude were great, much smoother than your usual glitter polish and lovely to apply. They dry very slightly gritty so I added a coat of Gelous before a coat of Sech Vite. But despite the additional ayer, they dried really quickly. Wear was also good. I had this on for three days without much tip wear which isn’t too bad seeing as I get tip wear as soon as my nails come within a foot of a keyboard.

I was wearing Kryptonite on our drive back from the Hunter Valley a couple of weeks ago which was a plus because it gave me something to look at whilst we spent time stuck in Sydney traffic:)

Well, week one of Holothon and so far I’ve actually managed more than one post! Yah me:)

Holothon: a bit of Hocus Pocus

Nothing for ages and then two posts in one day. It must be a public holiday here! (It is).

I follow a stack of nail polish blogs and these days, since becoming the proud mama of an iPad, I follow by RSS feed using River of News. Its such an easy way of reading all the blogs I enjoy in the one place. Whilst catching up on my reading this morning, I came across Inky Polisholicious’s post about a holoographic polish challenge entitled Holothon so without waiting for an invitation I decided to join in:)

I love a good holographic polish or glitter as much as the next lacquerhead and since getting the polish bug I’ve aquired quite a few so this challenge seemed like a good opportunity to try out a few of them. Again this challenge is my sort of challenge because it isn’t an epic everyday affair but rather it’s up to us how often we post. So I’ll be aiming to post at least once or twice a week which for me will be quite a lift in frequency:).

Anyway on to the polish. I’m a lazy lacquerhead so I opted to give Girly Pits Hocus Pocus a try. Hocus Pocus is a silver holo and I reckon it could be used on its own since it is quite opaque but I gather that it is kind of intended more as a top coat. Now for the lazy bit – I opted to use Hocus Pocus as a top coat.

Girly Bits Hocus Pocus

This is one coat of Girly Bits Hocus Pocus layered over my existing mani. No top coat. It’s quite a strong holo which is why I think you’d only need a couple of coats for an opaque mani by itself. In the bottle it looks a wee bit more subdued than your typical silver holographic polish.

The existing mani that I layered this over is two coats of YLS Bleu Majorelle with a base coat of OPI Matte Envy and a top coat of Seche Vite. Bleu Majorelle is such a gorgeous polish. I bought it on eBay during a crazy blue period I went through a couple of months ago. YSL like Dior have the fabulous flat shaped brush which combined with the great formula makes for very easy application. I’ve been wearing Bleu Majorelle for the last couple of days which for me is unusual since I’ve been changing my polish almost daily of late but with Bleu Majorelle I simply didn’t want to take it off. The edges near my cuticles are a bit untidy because I didn’t clean up before applying Seche Vite which I did in a real hurry since we were running later for dinner at a friends’s place. Here’s a pic of it before I added Hocus Pocus (excuse the scratching and the tip wear:).

EDIT: I think there’s something a wee bit strange going on with my inlinkz text below as it only shows myself and the lovely girls at Inky Polisholiscious who organised this challenge. However, I know that there are a number of others doing this challenge whose links are not showing up below for some reason. You can get to them, however, by following Inky Polisholiscious link. I’ve tried to correct it but I’m at a loss as to what is going wrong:(
