Deborah Lippmann Forget You or why they say you shouldn’t meet your heroes

Hullo again. i wanted to post my pics of this polish before they got too long in the tooth. This is Deborah Lippmann Forget You.

Deborah Lippmann Forget You

I’d seens some pics of this puppy and an instant lemming was created. Now Deborah Lippmann polishes aren’t the easiest polishes to come by in Australia. Your best bet is eBay or Revolve Clothing. There are other online stores that purport to have international shipping and that stock this brand, however, when you try to checkout purchases it is then that you get the message the the product isn’t available in your region (i.e. Kiss and Makeup, Nordstrom). *sad face*

So anyway, back to the polish. I spanked my lemming for this polish by finally ordering it from Revolve Clothing. And rather than swatch it to a nail art stick and dutifully put it away in my drawers to wait in its ‘untried’ queue, I excitedly put it on straight away.

I’ll tell you now that I think this one is the most densely packed glitter polish I’ve applied so far. It is absolutely rammed full of the stuff. And it’s well suspended too. So application wasn’t a problem. The amount of tint in the black jelly base is just right. And you seriously don’t have to fluff about with fishing anything out with this baby.

But there’s a saying that you shouldn’t meet your heroes. Unfortunately I have to say that, for me, that sentiment applies perfectly to Forget You.  And you know what? Looking back at these photos I’m struggling to recall exactly what I found so disappointing about this polish because it looks a gorgeous, a multicoloured burst on your nails.

However, my reaction at the time was ‘meh’. It felt like too much junk on my nails. I didn’t enjoy the look of my tips as the jelly is too lightly tinted to cover the tips so despite wrapping them as per normal, it struck me that the looked sort of dirty. I actually only wore it for one day and couldn’t wait to take it off. I was so disappointed by this polish that I had decided to just gift it on.

Seeing these pics though makes me want to try again. The mani in these pics was three coats of Forget You topped with a coat of Gelous and a coat of Seche Vita. Currently I’m wondering whether a single coat over a plain black creme would work better? It would at least lessen the amount of glitter on my nails as well as mean my tips are completely covered. Once I’ve tried wearing that way, I’ll reconsider whether this once hard lemminged polish has a permanent home in my collection.

Has anyone else tried Forget You? What was your verdict? Do you wear it over undies or by itself?

The Lazy 15: Favourite Colour

Hullo again. And I’m back for Manicure No 6 of 15 which is favourite colour.

Now I have a general favourite colour. You know, the colour that you buy pens in, the colour that you’ll select a toothbrush in, your hole punch, your post it notes. And for me that is purple. I love purple. And I own quite a few purple nail polishes.

However, when it comes to nail polish purple is not, as it turns out, my favourite colour. I like it on my nails. Enjoy it even. But for whatever reason, it is grey polish that I seem to enjoy wearing the most. Greys of all hues, from the silvers through to the charcoals. And I love a simple grey creme too. Dunno why, just something about the colour that seems to suit my pale pinky white freckled skin. So in homage to my love of grey polish, I’ve tried to do a mani using a number of greys.

Unfortunately when I was rubbing some cuticle oil into my fingers I’ve somehow managed to twist the polish on my ring finger. Those lines were straight I swear:(. I should have done it again but I was running out of time. Plus ‘warts and all’ remember. So here we are.

Lazy 15 – Favourite colour mani

First we have a further attempt at a marble manicure using China Glaze Recycle, Chemistry (Ozotic) 509, China Glaze Pelican Grey over undies of China Glaze White on White. I was actually pretty surprised that I wanted to try marbling again quite so soon. It worked ok expect I should have used grey undies as I taped too close to my cuticles and lost some edging of the mani when I was removing the tape. Next is Contrary Polish Purple Smoke with two coats of The Hungry Asian Mumbling which is the loveliest mix of silver glitter. My ring finger is Purple Smoke on the base with stripes of The Hungry Asian Zera Grey over the top. Finally on my little finger is Manglaze Fuggen Ugly with a tip of Layla Flash Black.

Again sorry for muffing up the stripped mani. It looked good before I managed to bugger it up. But even so I was quite happy with my efforts having never tried such a mixture of techniques before.

So there you go, my efforts at showcasing my favourite polish colour, grey:).

Pretty Serious Emma Louise

Hullo again. I wanted to post my pics of Pretty Serious’ first Limited Edition polish Emma Louise before stocks run out. Because doing so after stocks run out is just cruel right?:)

I wore this a few weeks back and it was just such a pretty polish to wear. Purple is my favourite colour. And purple and green my favourite colour combination. According to the blurb, Kaz designed this polish as a gift to her best mate, Emma Louise. It’s a limited edition run of 300 polishes and $5 from the sale of each bottle goes to the New South Wales Cancer Council. A thoughtful concept on all counts.

The formula is great, very easy to work with and not thick and paste-like which is what you get with some glitter polishes (yes Butter London Chancer I am talking about you!). It dried beautifully with a coat of Seche Vita. One coat of top coat was enough to leave it nice and smooth.

The lovely boxes that this polish came in are numbered and mine were #71 and #72. I bought a second one as a wee gift for my best mate. I ordered pretty early on on the day of release so as you can see this was a fairly sought after purchase. So if you love purple and green, please be sure to act soon whilst there is still stock - http://www.pretty-serious.com/collections/limited-edition/products/emma-louise-nail-polish-11ml

I must say I’m slightly addicted to Kaz’s polishes. I’ve snapped up each one so far. Whilst not absolutely every one is precisely ‘me’ the collector in me loves having them all because they are great polishes in their own right in a diverse range of colours with the quirkiest names. I also love lending the little support I can to someone who has been brave enough to take on the not inconsiderable personal risk of starting up their own business. Something I admire strongly and would love to do myself but lack the energy and nouse to do so.

Did you buy Emma Louise already? What other Pretty Serious products have you tried?

Holothon: Picture Polish Monroe v2

Hullo again. It’s still Holothon so I wanted to take advantage of that and wear another of the wonderful holo glitters by Picture Polish.

Picture Polish originally released Monroe v1 sometime ago as part of its Opulence range. Now I must admit I own Monroe v1 but like the naughty, indulgent lacquerhead that I am, I’m yet to wear it. In between times, however, Picture Polish came out with their new colours, including their collaboration range which contained several lovely holo glitter polishes. I bleated about Kryptonite in a previous Holothon post here.

Now since I’d worn and loved both Kryptonite and Attitude, when I read Cathy at More Nail Polish’s review of Monroe v2 I knew I just had to have it. Cathy’s review included a comparison of v1 and v2. But the clincher for me was that v2, unlike v1, was made with holo glitter rather than bog standard micro glitter (forgive me, am paraphrasing here:)).

Now if you can make out some scratches in the photos it’s because I’d been wearing this for three days before I got around to photographing it. I didn’t even bother reapplying a top coat (lazy see:)). What do you think about that? Pretty amazing huh?

Have you tried many of the recent releases by Picture Polish? What do you think of them?
