Yes, it is another nail polish blog. And yes, I know that there are thousands of these blogs out there. So why bother?
Well, apart from wanting some creative outlet for myself, a whole bunch of reasons. Wanting to catalogue my own story with nail polish. Wanting to improve and eventually perfect my technique with shaping my nails, with my application of products, and with photographing the product of all that. What better way to both document and encourage such improvement than through blogging about it?
I’m fascinated by the variety of brands out there, both the well established as well as the more obscure, less well known brands. In the relatively short time since I started collecting nail polish I’ve really enjoyed discovering and learning about the less well known brands that I’d previously never heard of, particularly from non-english speaking countries.
There are some fantastic bloggers out there with the most beautiful nails. These girls have skills when it comes to both adorning and then photographing that leave me speachless. What I have enjoyed in discovering this world of nail blogging is reading new blogs from start to present and seeing the improvement in the authors’ skills and technique. It’s wonderful.
It would also be a bonus if through this hobby I can connect with others who share this love as I’m certain my dear friends and my dear partner don’t quite understand it despite that they lovingly indulge me.
I also do most of my purchasing of polishes and other nail products online so I’d like to share my experiences about that with others. There are some truly wonderful etailers out there but unfortunately there is also the odd unprofessional outfit that should be avoided. To those wonderful businesses I’d like to give them a shout and let others know about how fantastic they are. Equally, I’ll be warning you about the dodgy, unprofessional ones I come across. What better place to do that than my own blog.
Ok, now down to it. I’m going to load my first photos. I tell myself this is a starting point. It will (hopefully) be quite fascinating to look back at what I load now down the track and see the improvements I’ve made. But for now I will just have to control my cringe. Super miniature photography is incredibly unforgiving of even the slightest flaw and my cuticles and my application still have many of those! So here goes :)
A couple of weeks ago I bought OPI’s NYC Ballet collection. I wasn’t really intending to buy the whole thing, it was more the lilac and the grey that interested me. But in the end it was going very cheaply on eBay so I grabbed the whole set on an impulse and I must say I’m fairly pleased that I did now. So the other night I tried out ‘My Pointe Exactly’ together with ‘Pirouette My Whistle’ for the first time. Application was ok despite that I was worried I’d cock it up because MPE is such a delicate jelly-type polish. In the end I used four coats of MPE, and two of PMW. Next time I’d probably not bother with PMW as I just loved MPE by itself. Unfortunately I didn’t take any photos before putting on PMW though. I actually applied this on Friday so it’s a couple of days old now. I also didn’t do any clean up around the cuticles. The pale colour deceived me into thinking none was needed, however, seeing these photos I now know it very much was!
